Chimney fires are a common source of damage when people don't operate them correctly.  Always make sure the flue is open and drafting before starting the fire.  It is also a good idea to have a chimney vendor clean any residue or creosote from the inside for safe fires.

This home's chimney got too hot and burned the wood structure around the chase.  The fire department was a mile away and was able to extinguish the flames and minimize smoke damage.

SERVPRO was called in to secure the openings with boards to keep the weather out.  Minimal smoke damage was cleaned and the exterior rebuilt.
